Club News | 10th Feb 2026
The Committee of Stewartry Rugby Club is currently exploring a proposal to change the Club’s legal status from a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
This change is being considered to provide the Club with a more suitable and sustainable structure for the future, giving us greater legal protection, improved governance, and access to wider funding opportunities that are available only to registered charities.
What This Means for Members
If the change is approved:
– All current members would automatically become members of the new SCIO.
– The Club’s aims and activities would remain focused on rugby and community engagement, as they are now.
– There may be some administrative updates, such as revised membership documentation, to align with the new legal framework.
What This Means for the Club’s Bar
The Club’s bar is an important part of our fundraising efforts, operating during match days, sponsorship events, and private hires. A significant percentage of our income is generated through these activities.
As a registered charity, there are specific HMRC and OSCR (Scottish Charity Regulator) rules around trading and bar income. The Committee will be working closely with advisors to ensure we remain compliant and that the bar can continue to operate effectively as an essential part of the Club’s finances and social aspects.
Next Steps
We will share more detailed information in the coming weeks, including:
– A summary of the proposed SCIO constitution
– The implications for Club finances and operations
– A date for a members’ meeting where you will have the opportunity to ask questions and vote on the proposal
Your views are extremely important to us. Please take time to read the information when it becomes available, and don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Committee if you have any immediate questions.
Thank you for your continued support for Stewartry Rugby Club — both on and off the field.
